Participants were randomly assigned to receive either probiotic or placebo using a computer-generated randomisation list prepared by the independent statistician. The 164 eligible subjects were randomised to receive either probiotic treatment (PG; n = 83) or control kefir (CG; n = 81). The measurements were performed at 4 weeks with 137 participants (n = 71 PG and n = 66 CG) while 27 subjects withdrew. At 8 weeks 76 participants (n = 43 PG and n = 33 CG) were followed; while 51 subjects withdrew
